India’s Reusable Launch Vehicle-Technology Demonstrator (RLV-TD)May 23, 2016 ISRO successfully flight tested India’s first winged body aerospace vehicle operating in hypersonic flight regime.
Taking baby steps towards developing a reusable launch vehicle capable of sending spacecraft into orbit and returning to the earth’s surface, the Indian Space Research Organisation on Monday successfully tested the country’s first winged-body aerospace vehicle In this experimental mission, the HS9 solid rocket booster carrying RLV-TD lifted off from the First Launch Pad at Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota at 07:00hr IST. After a successful flight of 91.1second, HS9 burn out occurred, following which both HS9 and RLV-TD mounted on its top coasted to a height of about 56 km. At that height, RLV-TD separated from HS9 booster and further ascended to a height of about 65km.

In a bid to harness solar energy, the Indian Railways is all set to conduct trial of its first solar panel-powered train in Rajasthan's Jodhpur city. A railway official said though the train would be pulled by conventional diesel-run engines, the solar energy will be used for internal electricity gadgets. "Solar panels have been installed on top of the coaches in the train and the energy, which we will get from the sun, will be used for the functioning of lights and fans inside the coaches in the train," said North Western Railways PRO Gopal Sharma, adding the trial run of the train will be conducted by the end of this month. The Indian Railways has been focusing on alternate source of fuels with trials already on to use CNG, biodiesel and natural gas among others. According to studies, a train using solar power can reduce diesel consumption by up to 90,000 litres per year and also bring down carbon dioxide emissions by over 200 tonnes. The CNG is being used in local trains on Rohtak-Rewari section of Delhi division. The dual fuel concept of using CNG and diesel has also helped in saving fuel and money. The Indian Railways is the world's fourth-largest rail network. सूरज की रोशनी से चलने वाली देश की पहली 6 कोच वाली सोलर ट्रेन तैयार हो चुकी है. इस ट्रेन के लाइट पंखे सोलर एनर्जी से चलेंगे. बोगियों की छत पर ये सोलर पैनल लगाए गए हैं जो सूरज की रोशनी से बिजली पैदा करते है. 2 बोगियों की छत पर लगे इन सोलर पैनल के जरिए सूरज की रोशनी से जो बिजली बनेगी उससे बोगी के 24 पंखे और 24 लाइटें जलाई जाएंगी. आईआईटी बेंगलुरु ने सौर ऊर्जा से चलने वाली ऐसी ट्रेन से जुड़ी एक रिसर्च की है जिसमें ये सामने आया है कि अगर 20 कोच वाली ट्रेन एक साल में 188 फेरे लेती है तो करीब 90 हजार लीटर डीजल बोगी में बिजली के लिए खर्च होता है. अब ना सिर्फ सोलर पैनल से डीजल बचेगा बल्कि साल में करीब 48 लाख रुपए से ज्यादा की बचत भी होगी. यहां आपको ये बता दें कि सूरज की रोशनी से सिर्फ पंखे और लाइट जलेगी. इस ट्रेन का इंजन डीजल से ही चलेगा. रेलवे बोर्ड ने पायलट प्रोजेक्ट के तहत जोधपुर की वर्कशॉप को करीब दो करोड़ रुपए का प्रोजेक्ट दिया है जिसके तहत सोलर पैनल वाले ऐसे 50 कोच बनने हैं. शुरू में ऐसी ट्रेनों को दिन में ही चलाया जाएगा. बाद में सोलर एनर्जी को बैटरी में स्टोर कर शाम और रात में इस्तेमाल करने की योजना भी है. खास बात ये है कि देशभर में इस तरह की सोलर ट्रेन के कोच तैयार होने हैं. एक कोच की छत पर 12 पैनल होंगे और हर पैनल आदर्श स्थिति में 300 वॉट बिजली पैदा करेंगे. ट्रेन तैयार है लेकिन ट्रायल होना अभी बाकी है. हालांकि इससे पहले सोलर पैनल कोच का ट्रायल रेलवे ने जून 2015 में रेवाड़ी-सीतापुर पैसेंजर ट्रेन में किया था ये नॉन एसी कोच था जिसमें हर पैनल को लगाने में करीब चार लाख रुपए खर्च हुए थे.
